The Martin D-16GT features a Gloss Top in addition to the well-known Dreadnought size in Style 16. In order to continue providing less costly guitars below Style 18, which nonetheless offer a professional-level instrument manufactured with solid tonewoods for the back, sides, and top and reinforced by full Martin bracing, Style 16 was developed.
